East Norwalk Train Station Closure

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is alerting customers of the upcoming temporary closure of the East Norwalk train station

  • Monday, March 11 - Sunday, March 31.
  • Work includes installing a new underdrain system under the existing East Norwalk station northern parking lot in preparation for future station improvements.
  • Train station and parking lot must be closed to accommodate construction to ensure the safety of workers. 
  • No trains will serve East Norwalk Station during this period.
  • Full regular train service remains available at the South Norwalk station and at the Westport station.
  • Free shuttle service, starting March 11.
  • East Norwalk station parking permit holders can access the South Norwalk Train Station Garage during temporary closure.

Railroad Activity 

Track and catenary work on the New Haven Line between Fort Point Street and the Strawberry Hill Avenue Railroad Bridge 

  • Monday, March 18 - Friday, March 22, from 10:00 PM - 6:00 AM.
  • No impacts to local roads, rail service or pedestrian trafficare anticipated.
  • Noise
    and construction lighting are anticipated and will be monitored.

Temporary WALK Bridge closure for Metro-North Railroad (MNR) cable and track work; no bridge openings

  • Friday, March 15 - Monday, March 25.
  • No bridge openings for MNR cable removal and track-level work.
  • Schedule is subject to change.

Construction on the New Haven Line at the Fort Point StreetOsborne Avenue, and East Avenue Railroad Bridges

  • Monday, March 18 - Friday, March 22, from 7:00 AM - 4:30 PM and 10:00 PM - 6:00 AM.
  • No impacts to local roads, rail service or pedestrian traffic are anticipated.
  • Noise and construction lighting are anticipated and will be monitored.

Marine Activity

Temporary West Channel Closure on the Norwalk River

  • Monday, March 18 - Tuesday, March 19 (24 Hours)
  • The channel is anticipated to reopen on Wednesday, March 20.
  • River users, please follow posted signage and slow down when passing through the work area.
  • Schedule is subject to change.

Construction activities northeastsoutheastnorthwest and southwest of the WALK Bridge on the Norwalk River

  • Monday, March 18 - Friday, March 22, from 7:00 AM - 4.30 PM.
  • Construction activities include pile driving for trestles, relocation of the WALK Bridge Control House and installation of secant pits ahead of micro-tunneling. 
  • Construction noise is anticipated and will be monitored. 

Other Activity

Utility work on East Avenue between Fort Point Street and the East Norwalk Train Station

  • Monday, March 18 - Sunday, March 24, from 7:00 AM - 6:00 AM.
  • No impacts to local roads, parking or pedestrian traffic are anticipated.  
  • Construction noise and lighting will be monitored.
  • Schedule is subject to change.

Road Closure on East Avenue between Fort Point Street and Winfield Street for Frontier Utility Work

  • Monday, March 11 - Sunday, March 31
  • Road closed under the railroad bridge between Fort Point Street and Winfield Street to install new utility conduits.
  • This work is being performed by Frontier Communications and not the WALK Bridge.
  • Motorists will be detoured to Van Zant Street and Fort Point Street.
  •  Schedule is subject to change.

Construction activities southwest of the WALK Bridge near North Water Street

  • Monday, March 18 - Saturday, March 23, from 7:00 AM - 4:30 PM.
  • Activities include materials delivery, site preparation and installation of a construction access ramp to the southwest trestle.
  • Construction noise and lighting will be monitored.
  • Schedule is subject to change.

Eversource and its contractors will be performing test pits on South Main Street near the intersection of Elizabeth Street and the Norwalk Police Station.

  • Monday, March 18 – Wednesday, March 20, from 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM.
  • At times, a one-way alternating traffic pattern will be implemented on South Main Street.
  • Local property and business access will be maintained, on-street parking will be reduced near the work area.
