Project Update
East Norwalk Train Station Temporarily Closed from August 17 to September 6, 2024
The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is alerting customers of the upcoming temporary closure of the East Norwalk train station from Saturday, August 17 to Friday, September 6, 2024. No trains will serve East Norwalk station during the temporary closure.
Full regular train service remains available at the South Norwalk station at 29 Monroe Street, 1.5 miles west, and at the Westport station at 1 Railroad Place in Westport, 2.2 miles east. During the three-week closure, East Norwalk station parking permit holders can access the South Norwalk train station garage or 180 East Avenue. Parking permits will not be honored at the Westport station.
Starting Monday, August 19, at 5:43 a.m., the Norwalk Transit District will provide a free shuttle service that will operate Monday through Friday during the three-week closure. The shuttle will travel between the East Norwalk and South Norwalk train stations seven times in the morning and seven times in the late afternoon/evening. The shuttle pick-up and drop-off points are located at the East Norwalk Shelter in Roger Ludlow Park on Gregory Boulevard, the Rite Aid at St. Johns Street, and the South Norwalk station on State Street. The shuttle departures and arrivals are timed with the Metro-North schedule. Passengers can find the shuttle schedule here.

Thank you again to the Norwalk Transit District for partnering with us to provide a free shuttle to ensure customers reach their trains and destinations with ease,” said Connecticut Department of Transportation Deputy Commissioner Laoise King. “We thank the public for the continued patience as improvements to the East Norwalk station move forward.”
The next phase of work at East Norwalk station includes demolition of the existing north platform, and construction of a temporary platform and access ramps to facilitate the future construction of a new station. The future station will include high-level boarding platforms on both sides of the tracks, new platform canopies, improvements to the parking lot, and more. The station work is one of the projects included in the overall WALK Bridge Program.

EAST NORWALK TRAIN STATION IMPROVEMENTS
The East Norwalk Train Station will be updated as part of the Connecticut Department of Transportation’s (CTDOT) Track Improvement Mobility Enhancement (TIME) 2 Projects - a sub-component of the WALK Bridge Replacement project.
The Train Station upgrades include extending platforms on both sides of the station to accommodate six train cars, new platform canopies, and improved parking and access - including a dedicated drop-off lane.
Construction begins in March 2024 and will take approximately four years. During this time, four separate (3-week-long) temporary train station closures will occur at the station.
